So, Februrary 4th is National Pisco Sour Day in Peru. I have a nice little write up I am working on to publish for that day, but I just came across this fantastic bit of news this morning: A pisco fair! Turns out that the Larcomar shopping center in Miraflores is celebrating the day with a five day fair of their own! Six of the best/most important cellars will be (well, actually they are already there since it started yesterday!) at the fair and will have their best piscos on exhibit and for sale at greatly reduced prices. Throw in live music and some food treats like queso helado de pisco and pisco chocolate and your evening or weekend plans are set.
Apparently, this started yesterday and runs through the weekend, February 5th. I am not sure how I missed this, but what a fantastic opportunity to try some of Peru’s best pisco and take a pick up a few bottles at bargain prices. For those of you that are not familiar with pisco, it is the national liqour of Peru (Chileans might not agree with this statement, but sometimes the truth hurts :p) and is a kind of grape brandy. It is colorless, and while it has its own unique taste, sometimes people think it tastes a bit like tequila.
Check back with us on the 4th to learn more about National Pisco Sour Day and the drink. In the mean time, if you are in Lima or will be arriving this weekend, make sure to check out this great pisco fair at Larcomar shopping center…and even if you don’t drink, just go to enjoy the fantastic views of the Pacific and bluffs of Miraflores!
