Photo of the Week – Doorway to Machu Picchu

Let this be the gateway to the start of a great weekend!  Enjoy the view and looking forward to seeing you standing in the doorway, very soon Stopping the Wind and Leslie Carter!

Note the fine craftsmanship of the masonry - no mortar used to keep them in place, just used mud to fill in the cracks.

    • Yes, you must! Even though it is getting a little “touristy” it is still worth the visit! The views and seeing everything built up on the mountain top…I just can’t imagine how they must have done it. It is pretty spectacular. But the new place I want to see is Kuelap, which is one of the featured posts. It is located in the Amazon region and just makes me wonder what else is hiding in the jungle! When you think about it, it is a shame we do not spend more time investigating and studying the history of the Americas more than that of Europe. Maybe one day. 🙂 You will always be welcome here and hope that you make it down here sooner, than later!

      • You said it! Go, you will never be sorry. I am so happy to have gone, that shot our tour guide took pictures of people in front of. Just to stand on that site, to see that monumental set of structures at the top of a mountain. To be at eye level with the mountaintop. Wow, go!

        • Yes! Isn’t it something? I mean it is one thing to read about it and think, “wow, how did they do that?” but when you actually are there, and can touch these stones that have been there for hundreds of years…knowing that people probably smarter than us today did this…it is just unbelievable! I could go up there a dozen times and never cease to be amazed. I am looking forward to heading to Kuelap next!

Thank you for stopping by and so glad you had a phenomenal time at Machu Picchu! You are always welcome to come back! 🙂
